The Imo State Police Command says it is actively on the trail of kidnappers of former Imo State House of Assembly member, Ngozi Ogbu, who represented the Okigwe State Constituency in Imo State.
A viral video had shown Ogbu in captivity, appealing for help while being held by his abductors.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Imo police command spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, said Ogbu was abducted on September 7, in Onuimo by suspected members of the proscribed IPOB/ESN group.
Okoye revealed that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, has ordered the immediate deployment of the Command’s Tactical Units, working in collaboration with other security agencies, to track down the suspects and ensure the safe rescue of the abducted lawmaker. A thorough investigation is already underway.
He added that the command is urging members of the public to remain calm but vigilant, and to provide any useful information that could aid the rescue operation.
