Victor Osimhen is set to miss the Super Eagles of Nigeria’s crunch World Cup qualifier against South Africa due to injury.

According to updates shared from the team camp on Sunday, the Super Eagles talisman will not travel with the team to Bloemfontein.

Osimhen was injured in Nigeria’s hard-fought 1-0 win over Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Saturday.

He was substituted in the first half after team doctors attended to the Galatasaray striker, who held his leg following the tackle.

Osimhen tried to play on but succumbed to the injury and was replaced by Cyril Dessers in the 35th minute.

‎Team doctors have further confirmed that Osimhen suffered a shin injury.

Promise Efoghe, the team’s media officer, said the 26-year-old is still in discomfort and would not travel with the team for the all-important encounter.

‎”Team doctor confirmed Victor Osimhen’s injury is a bruise on his Shin. ‎He woke up this morning with discomfort and will not be traveling with the squad to South Africa for Tuesday’s game,” Efoghe said.

‎Nigeria won their first match in five attempts in Group A of Africa’s qualifying series, and are third on ten points after seven games.

‎South Africa lead the group with 16 points with three matches left to play, and they clash with the Super Eagles in a winner-takes-all encounter on September 9.
