The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has vowed that the army will chase bandits of out communities in Katsina State.
Olukayode said this on Sunday, during a visit to Katsina after a recent bandits attack in Malumfashi Local Government Area of the state.
Last week Tuesday, bandits in a reprisal attack, opened fire on worshippers observing the early morning prayer in a mosque, killing at least 35 persons.
The COAS who was on an operational visit, met with the acting governor, Faruk Lawal, at the Government House where he assured that the Nigerian Army is determined to end banditry and other forms of insecurity in Katsina and the wider North-West.
He described the attack on Mantau community in Malumfashi as “unfortunate and sad,” stressing that troops would intensify efforts to identify and neutralise bandit leaders behind the violence.
“The enemies of Katsina are within, and we will fish them out and eliminate them,” he said.
The army chief also called for stronger intelligence sharing between residents, the state government and security agencies to fast-track the fight against banditry.
