Dancehall star Charles Nii Armah Mensah, fondly known as Shatta Wale, has voiced out gratitude to officials of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) following his release from custody.

Speaking live on his social media platform on Thursday, August 21, the acclaimed Ghanaian musician commended EOCO for treating him fairly during his detention.

Shatta Wale revealed that the officers of EOCO were professional and ensured he went through the right processes during his time with them.

“To all the staff at EOCO, you guys have been wonderful. At least I came there and you guys really took me through the rightful processes that were needed. I just want to say God bless you,” he said.

He also heaped thanks on his fans and supporters for standing by him throughout the ordeal.

“One Don is safe, I’m home now, and I want to say a big thank you [to fans] for supporting and being around me in times like this because I needed you guys the most and you held me down,” he added, giving a special appreciation to his mentor, Nii Original, whom he described as “a father” to him.

Shatta Wale was released after nearly two days in EOCO custody following a variation of his bail conditions in connection with an ongoing investigation into his acquisition of a luxury vehicle.

His manager, Samuel Atuobi Baah, also known as Sammy Flex, confirmed that the initial bail sum of GH¢10 million was reduced to GH¢5 million with two sureties to be justified.

Under the new conditions, Shatta Wale is expected to report to EOCO three times a week as investigations continue.

The detention and subsequent release
of Shatta Wale, are part of a broader, internationally coordinated investigation.

He was originally invited to EOCO to assist in a probe into the purchase of a 2019 Lamborghini Urus, a car authorities believe is linked to the proceeds of a US$4 million crime.

This financial scam was orchestrated by a Ghanaian national, Nana Kwabena Amuah, presently serving a prison term in the USA

The luxury car was seized by EOCO in a joint operation with the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Department of Justice (DOJ).

According to an official statement from EOCO, Shatta Wale was questioned for nearly four hours and was unable to identify the person who sold him the car.

He instead claimed that he bought it from “the street”.

The EOCO statement further highlighted Shatta Wale’s inability to provide any ownership documentation for the vehicle, except for a customs declaration form bearing Amuah’s name.

The release of the artiste on the revised bail conditions comes after days of legal processes and public scrutiny.

His fans, known as the “Shatta Movement”, converged outside the EOCO offices, chanting and showing support for the music star during his detention.
