Ruben Amorim has set an unwanted Premier League record following Manchester United’s 1-0 loss to Arsenal. Riccardo Calafiori’s header condemned United to a narrow defeat in their Premier League opener on Sunday, and while Amorim’s team showed positive signs, the Portuguese made history – but not in the way he would have wanted.
According to OptaJoe, Amorim has now lost 15 of his 28 Premier League games (with seven wins and six draws).
This is the fastest a manager has reached that many defeats in the competition, without taking charge of a newly promoted club in that period, since Paul Hart with Portsmouth in 2009 (27 games).
Incidentally, since the start of the 2023-24 season, United have conceded the most goals from corners (23), whereas Arsenal have notched the most in that facet of the game (31).
And all six of the Gunners’ away victories at the Red Devils in the Premier League have been 1-0 wins. Amorim’s United will try to bounce back from this loss when they travel to Fulham – who drew their first game of the season at Brighton – next Sunday, whereas Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal host newly-promoted Leeds United the day prior.
