President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has left the Federal Capital Territory for a two-nation official visit to Japan and Brazil.
The President who departed the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja around 11:15 am, is expected to have a short stopover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Tinubu escorted to the airport by key government functionaries, comprising the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; and the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun.
His trip is on the heels of a statement on
Wednesday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, that President Tinubu would depart Nigeria for the trip.
In an earlier statement, the Presidential aide had said while in Japan, President Tinubu will attend the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) in the City of Yokohama from August 20 to 22.
With the theme “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa,” TICAD9 will focus on driving Africa’s economic transformation and strengthening its business environment and institutions through private investment and innovation. It will also promote a resilient, sustainable African society anchored on human security, peace, and stability.
At the end of the TICAD9, President Tinubu will leave for Brasilia, the capital of the Federative Republic of Brazil, on a two-day state visit from Sunday, August 24, to Monday, August 25.
This comes after an invitation by Brazil President, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
During his stay in Brazil, President Tinubu will hold a bilateral meeting with his host and attend a business forum with investors in Brazil.
