The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered an investigation into veteran Fuji singer, Wasiu Ayinde, better known KWAM 1, over allegations of disruptive conduct at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on August 5, 2025.
KWAM1, who was one of the passengers of a ValueJet plane on the said date, was said to have been seen drinking from a flask. He was subsequently approached by a flight attendant who suspected that the content was alcohol, which is prohibited onboard aircraft in Nigeria.
The attendant asked the musician to hand over the flash, which he refused, arguing that the content was prescribed by his doctor.
Following his refusal to give up the flask, the flight crew asked him to get off the planed.
Consequently, an enraged KWAM 1 proceeded to the front of the aircraft in an attempt to prevent it from taking off.
The matter has since been attended to by the Nigerian Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) which petitioned the IGP over the incident.
In a statement on Tuesday, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), confirmed that the force has received an official petition from the NCAA.
Adejobi said the IGP has directed the commissioner of police, airport command, to “immediately commence a thorough investigation into the matter, to unravel the circumstances which led to the ugly incident and ensure justice is served accordingly”.
“The Force hereby assures the public of its commitment to upholding safety and security within Nigeria’s aviation sector, while assuring stakeholders in the sector of improved collaboration towards aviation security and strict compliance with aviation laws,” the statement reads.
