Tanko Yaasai, the Director-General of the Tinubu Support Group (TSG), says northerners will support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027 general elections because he backed his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari, for two terms.
Yakasai said this on Thursday in Akure, during the inauguration of the Ondo State chapter of the Tinubu Support Group, where governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa was decorated as the group’s Grand Patron.
The TSG DG explained that the north owed Tinubu the moral support because of his political alliance with the region in past elections.
“If Asiwaju supported Buhari in 2017 and repeated the same feat with success in 2023, it has become a moral imperative for all of us northerners to reciprocate. It is an honour for us to be morally conscious, morally right, and support his second-term bid,” Yakasai said.
He also dismissed criticisms of Tinubu by some northern figures, calling them insignificant.
“If you hear a few voices claiming to oppose President Tinubu, they are mostly people fingered in corruption, fraud, or those who have not found space in government. They represent an infinitesimal fraction of the electorate,” he said.
Yakasai added that the Tinubu Support Group remains the umbrella body coordinating all pro-Tinubu movements nationwide.
“TSG has served and will continue to serve as the coordinating platform for all groups working to promote the Tinubu presidency and secure his re-election,” he noted.
