The Super Eagles secured their second win of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying series on Saturday, after beating Rwanda 1-0 in a matchday seven fixture.
The game, played at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, saw the Eagles win through a 51st-minute goal by Tolu Arokodare.
Nigeria, led by coach Eric Chelle, suffered a misfortune that could be detrimental to their campaign as top goalscorer Victor Osimhen was led out injured in the first half.
Cyriel Dessers came on in for the Galatasaray striker, and helped the team pile up pressure on the Rwandans until the winning goal was scored.
With the win, the Nigerian men have climbed to third in the Group C table, leapfrogging Rwanda to sit behind Benin Republic and leaders South Africa.
The Super Eagles will have another chance to claim additional three points when they face the Bafana Bafana of South Africa next Tuesday.
Recall that Nigeria failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup hosted in Qatar. The team have three more matches to prove they deserve a spot at the 2026 tournament billed to hold in North America.
After 7 matches, Nigeria sits third with 10 points behind 11-point Benin and 16-point South Africa. The group winner gets automatic qualification for the mundial.
