Three days after his injury, Chippa United are yet to reveal the diagnosis of the injury to Super Eagles number one goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali.
Nwabali was stretchered off on Tuesday, in the 35th minute of Chippa United’s 1-0 defeat at Richards Bay in the South Africa Premier League after sustaining a nasty injury.
South African journalist Austin Ditlhobolo, reported that Nwabali is scheduled for medical tests this week, with the results expected to determine his availability for both club and country.
“Nwabali will be hoping to be fit for Sunday’s showdown against Orlando Pirates and the World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Bafana Bafana. He will undergo medical tests,” Ditlhobolo said.
Since making his debut for Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire, the 29-year-old has been a steady hands in-between the sticks for the Super Eagles, benching the likes of Maduka Okoye, who has recently resuscitated his career.
Last week, Eagles head coach Eric Chelle released a 31-man provisional squad for the upcoming crucial 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa. Nwabali, who topped a list that consists of four goalkeepers, was expected to make the final cut in the list of invited players and even start both matches.
However, the lack of words on the state of his injury nine days to Nigeria’s clash against Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and Chelle would be hoping that the former Lobi Stars goalkeeper will recover in time.
