The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is taking pragmatic steps not to leave anything to chance ahead of Super Eagles’ 2026 World Cup playoffs in Morocco next month.
The Eagles literally came back from the dead in the qualifiers to pick one of the four playoff spots in Africa, courtesy of their unbelievable 4-0 win over Benin Republic in their final Group C game.
Luckily for Nigeria, every other thing worked in their favour, including rankings and the goal difference.
According to football journalist, Osasu Obayiuwana, the NFF chairman Shehu Dikko met with Abraham Brehima Sidibe, the agent of Eagles coach, to talk over “a renegotiated bonus” should his client secure the ticket for Nigeria.
Obayiuwana also claimed that the football federation is also working on a plan to renegotiate a bonus package for the Super Eagles, with the aim of motivating the players to go all the way to qualify for the finals.
“Ahead of the #FIFAWorldCup #Africa Playoffs in #Morocco, Nigeria’s @NatSportsComm Chairman @ShehuDikko met with Abraham Brehima Sidibe, the agent of @NGSuperEagles coach Eric Chelle, at @EkoHotels on Sunday night. A renegotiated bonus for Chelle, should he qualify the team for #FIFAWorldCup2026, through the playoffs, will be agreed,” he wrote on X on Monday.
“There is also a plan to negotiate a fresh bonus package for the @NGSuperEagles players for the World Cup package, “to motivate the players.”
All outstanding money due to Chelle is also to be paid, “to enable him focus” on the task of getting #Nigeria through the November 13 and 16 matches in Morocco, in which the @NGSuperEagles take on #Gabon, after which, should they win, they face the winner of the @LIndomptables v #DRC encounter.”
Nigeria will face Gabon on November 13 and the winner will face the winner of the clash between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Cameroon. The overall winner will represent Africa in an intercontinental playoff.
