Super Eagles head coach Eric Sekou Chelle now has the complement of the 28 players invited for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), following the arrival of Moses Simon and Victor Osimhen on Wednesday.
Nigeria will fly to Morocco on Thursday, for the competition. Chelle saw his team lose 2-1 to Egypt in an AFCON warm up game on Tuesday without some of his key players, including Osimhen and Simon.
The likes of Samuel Chukwueze too had arrived late and was not part of the team that faced the Pharaohs. The team held its second training earlier in the day, with players who got minutes in the friendly game hitting the gym for some recovery sessions.
The Eagles are in Group C of the 35th edition of the African football showpiece and are under pressure more than ever to win it, after the team failed to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Chelle would be under a different spotlight with his selection. The Malian in his final 28-man list for the competition, included players who did not participate in the qualifiers for the AFCON, not even in the World Cup qualifiers, dropping Tolu Arokodare, Christantus Uche, Sadiq Umar, among others.
He rather gave opportunities to new faces like Akinsanmiro Ebenezer, Tochukwu Nnadi, Ryan Alebiosu, Salim Fago, and Usman Mohammed, while Francis Uzoho made a comeback.
